Our Library at Mitcham Primary School is a place where children are the focus.

·         Well-stocked with picture books, junior novels, novels, non-fiction and a variety of reference books

·         An environment where children enjoy reading especially in our Cosy Corner

·         Children learn skills to help them make the best use of  the Library such as understanding that picture books have one letter, novels have three letters and non-fiction uses the Dewey Decimal System.

·         Coloured charts with non-fiction topics to help students find non-fiction books.

·         Children have input into the books we buy by adding to the “Books I would like to have in the Library” list.

·         New books are available each week for the students to browse and borrow

·         In 2009, we welcomed Christopher Milne into the school and many students enjoy reading his “Naughty Stories for Good Boys and Girls.”

·         For Book Week in 2009, we invited librarians from the Blackburn, Nunawading and Whitehorse City Libraries to come and do some storytelling.  Our Prep classes and some other junior grades had fun interacting with the stories.

·         In 2014, we welcomed George Ivanoff, the author of the exciting 'You Choose' series, RFDS series and many more!

·         In 2015, we welcomed Danny Parker, the wodnerful picture story book author to our school to work in hourly sessions with the children. This year we were also fortunate enough to also be visited (for the first time) by author Kym Lardner.

·         In 2016, we were lucky enough to enjoy the enthusiasm of author Adam Wallace, where the children worked through engaging drawing workshops.

·         In 2017, we excitedly welcomed back authors Adam Wallace and Kym Lardner for more engaging workshops.
